Video Games are Evil

As someone who enjoys video games I grow tired of all the reports about how they are going to turn me into an evil violent person. Here is some research to show otherwise.

Timing is everything

I have this uncanny ability to buy a mac and then they go and update it like a month later. I check the rumor sites but when I buy a mac they never call it. The first time I had this happen is a few years ago when I bought a dual G4 tower. The rumor sites had said there was a G5 tower coming but nobody knew when. I waited months but I needed a...

Direct TV On Demand

I have two direct TV boxs with ethernet connections. You can plug them into the network but it really does nothing for you. I had read on the forum groups they were testing networking in select areas. Like Tivo, if you record a show on one box you can play it over the network to the other box. I called Direct TV to ask to be on that beta, but no one would help me on...

Fatty Fat McFat Fat

Starting last summer I have been really home bound. I have just not had a lot of time to get out and play with the arrival of a new baby, moving, so on and so on. Needless to say I have attracted a little weight and it is time for it to come off. We have 40 acres of mountain bike trails right behind my house and a ton of other good trails near by. I...

I Saved Zelda Again

I just finished The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princes (http://www.zelda.com/tp) for the Wii. Once again another great Zelda game. If you have liked past Zelda games you will like this one too. What I really enjoyed was using the Wii remote for the control. No longer do you just push your A button to swing your sword. You really swing your Wii remote. It never got old for me. You...

New Backup In Town

For years now I have been making backups of my files. I have a separate drive that all my music, pictures, docs and so on get backed up on every hour using Apple's portable home directory (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=67 Itemid=7) feature. The part that always bothered me was I never had a current off site back up of that data. Sure every six months or so I would burn a new copy of our pictures to...

New Car

So life has been a little busy the last few months with the new baby but that is not the only thing I have been up to. Since the last post I have sold my old house, purchased a new house and bought a used car. I will talk about the house stuff later but I will fill you in on the car. I have been looking for a car for quite a while now. My...

Giving linux a try

There is all this news about these long time Mac fans switching to Linux and Apple needs to look out. I was wondering what all the fuss was about so I thought I would try it myself. I am not crazy and instantly switching. I didn’t put it on my work machine. I installed it on my mac mini that I have running as a local server. The built in drive is to small for...

It is found - old school portable fun

passive LCD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_crystal_display#Passive-matrix_and_active-matrix) instead of a active LCD. I will let you read more about that technology yourself but in short the screen was not good and keeping colors from bleeding and it could not turn on and off colors quickly. This made fast moving games unbearable to play. The simple games were the most fun to play.

Columns (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columns_%28video_game%29) - A Tetris like game.
	G-Lock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-LOC:_Air_Battle) - A fighter game. This one...

Sonic Mega Collection

The other day while shopping at Costco I wandered over to the video games section. There in the front was Sonic Mega Collection for fifteen dollars. I had just read a week earlier that it had been fifteen years ago that the first Sonic The Hedgehog game had come out. So I picked it up, fired up the old GameCube and played Sonic The Hedgehog for the first time in probably 13 years. Wow, did it...

Fun, Fun, Fun

I got my Nintendo DS Lite this weekend. This is a great little portable video game system. There are already lots of technical reviews (http://ds.ign.com/articles/711/711985p1.html) out there to go read so I am going to just talk about what was new to me. First off the last hand held video game system I owned was the Sega GameGear (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_Gear) back in ninth grade (15+ years ago). The problem with that thing was anytime anything...

Apple has posted some new Get A Mac (http://www.apple.com/getamac/) ads. The one below I liked the best, because nothing says computer fun like staring up Microsoft Office Excel. Yeah, good times! Play Movie (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=87 Itemid=7).
